About me
Arlette (Aletta) Jeanine Graven, born on the 16th of February 1959, grew up in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. After secondary school I went to Morocco, stayed two years in Paris and in other places in France, after that I sailed around, lived in different places, but since 1987 I am settled down in Portugal.
Since I was more or less 8 year old, I started to make pictures with a very simple camera. With my first earned money (putting shoeboxes back into place in a local shoe shop) I bought my first serious camera. Nearly always taking pictures, I won some small awards, and got very good reactions on the subject/quality.
One day I sent a photograph to National Geographic, and to my own surprise it was selected for the “Daily Chosen”. It was not published, but I decided to update my portfolio and started to contact people. My first exhibition about India’s daily life was a success and I was asked to make another one about Portugal.
I hope you will enjoy my photographs, and hope you will order one (or perhaps two?).
Best regards, Arlette
PS This website is a present for my 50th birthday from my friends, thank you very much, I think it’s beautiful.
